Users

User Overview

Users play a central role alongside equipment in the LMACS system. Each user is granted access to various aspects of the application based on their role. Each user should be unique within the system and is identified by their username and / or email address. LMACS will not allow the same email address to be registered to two unique users.

Creating New Users

New users can be created manually or (preferably) through an automated registration process.  If the Facility Option require account configuration is set to yes, then the system will walk the user through a process which will require them to associate themselves with a Group and select a default project before proceeding. More details about this process can be found in the registration section.

Equipment Access

Users are granted access to equipment by adding tools to their authorized equipment list. Each combination of one tool and one user is referred to as a tool-user and each tool-user has an associated level which controls the users access to the equipment. There are a number of properties that can also be specified on a per tool-user basis to provide further control. Tool users can be set to revert back to a default level after a period of inactivity on the tool. This allows trainers of managers to set expiration limits on training. There is no limit to the number of tools a user may have access to. Visit the Equipment Access page for more on managing this.

Project Membership

Work performed within the LMACS system is captured into projects. A user can become a member of multiple projects. Typically, the project manager will be required to activate a new user when they are added their project. There is no limit to the number of projects a user can be a member of. When accessing resources within LMACS, the user will identify the appropriate project that should be applied to. Visit the Project Management page for more on managing this.
