Understanding Project Types
Project Types area applied to Projects. Project types are the primary means of setting different rates for equipment and material usage. In the LMACS system, all charges must be contained within a project, and each project must have a specified type. In this way, the ultimate fee that a user is charges is abstracted from both their group affiliation and their user account.
Creating a Project Type
As with most simple objects in the system, project types are easily created from the Facility Project Types section. To create a project type, all you need is a name. You can create multiple types at once by entering a comma separated list.
Once created, you can manage the project type by clicking the info icon.
Again, there isn’t much to manage with this – just the name. Setting a type to active will prevent the ability to set new projects to this type. If you wish to remove a project type that currently has projects in it, you will have to select a new project type to assign the projects to before deleting.
Rates
When configuring Equipment and Material rates, you will see a row for each system project type, including inactive types. Each row requires a value.
For Equipment, you can select on of the time based units, for Materials the unit is a simple text field.
Re-Calculating Projects Charges After Changing Type
In the event that a project needs to be reclassified – you can change the project type and then re-calculate all of the existing charges. This is done in the Project Usage management section.
Simply select the date range that you wish to re-calculate and press re-calculate. This will use the current project type and adjust the charges over the given date range.
